R029 - MODERATE ISLAM?

Notes 1998

The editor of a Saudi publication recently wrote: not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims; massacres against children and civilians are perpetrated in the name of God (Allah) the Merciful Clement. Already in 2002, the most famous Muslim religious leaders justified the martyrdom actions of the mujàhidìn, finding their foundation in the Koran and in the tradition of the prophet. The daily events of the war in progress increasingly report that the control of the population remains with the ulemas and the immams of the mosques; they have become the privileged interlocutors of the western governments. It is clear that the fight against religious fundamentalism can only be won with the contribution that the Muslim religious leaders in the Arab countries could give, and all the means should be adopted by the countries concerned to obtain their adhesion.  The various public initiatives of dialogue undertaken by Christian organizations in the West can only bear fruit if they are replicated in Islamic countries. It is essential that the The EU must also ensure that the path of dialogue is followed in Islamic, Arab and non-Arab countries.

R031 - Is the “Islamic Council” the first step towards the Sharia in Italy?

Is the “Islamic Consult” the first step towards Sharia in Italy?

A Muslim friend of mine has moved from an Arab country to the state of Ontario in Canada to escape from the discrimination inherent in the sharia against women. Unfortunately, in Ontario there is a proposal for a law that allows the application of sharia law to the problems of families, so my friend in Canada has passed from the pan to the grill thanks to the local consults. The President of UCOII, the doctor Dr. Nour, having declared on TV to Minister Turco that Italian laws are slowly approaching the sharia; will not there be the intention to use the Islamic Council as an attempt to take a first step towards the introduction of sharia in Italy?

R034 - Freedom of expression, violence and reciprocity

CORSERA – 2015

Dear Doctor de Bortoli:

The latest issues of the Corriere report editorials that call for mutual respect and not to offend one’s neighbor (the Muslims). I quote Baroness Ashton, EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, “We must not fall into the trap that extremists and terrorists are setting for us”, “We must resist those who would like to make religion a cause of division. The best response to extremism is to create a united international front based on universal standards of freedom of belief and religion. The European Union will not look away. It is a laudable campaign that should be echoed by such an attitude on the part of the Islamic World Order. For information purposes only, I also enclose an example of how the Koran can be used to foment hatred and violence or respect and coexistence (attached for information purposes).

I would like to suggest Western politicians and rulers the most appropriate actions to ask Islamic countries that feel offended to apply in their societies the same respect they demand of us. As chance would have it, the major violence happens on Friday when the mosques leave. Violence attracts more violence to the point of self-destruction and poverty, not for nothing in the last twenty years have three hundred million Arabs produced only 171 international patents; Korea alone 16328; enormous amounts of imported technology but little is produced locally.

The fine-sounding declarations must be followed by incisive actions in the field of education both in the West and, above all, in the Arab world. In this regard, the Ambrosian Centre for Religious Documentation invited European politicians to monitor educational material in Arab countries so that incitement to violence would make room for mutual respect.

Let’s the hope that these reflections brought to the public may inspire what are the most appropriate means for dialogue and coexistence in the globalized world, a theme anticipated by Cardinal Martini in his letter “Noi e l’Islam”  published in 1990  ahead of the globalization and the Internet revolution.

The published articles intend to provide the tools for a social inclusion of the migratory flow, shed light on human rights and the condition of life of Christians in the Islamic world from which the author come from. Knowledge of the other, of cultural and religious differences are primary ingredients to create peace in the hearts of men everywhere, a prerequisite for a peaceful coexistence and convinced citizenship in the territory.

R036 - A gesture of courage

CORSERA – 24/7/2016

My Muslim friends draw their faith from the Koran, from their sermons, from their personal effort and the environment in which they live. The “jihadist” terrorists also draw on the same sources, Koranic preaching and incitements to live the “true Islam”. Therefore, the courageous gestures that I feel I can ask of all Muslims, is a condemnation expressed with greater firmness especially by civil society, religious movements and the vast world of mosques.

In my opinion, terrorism can be defeated through the support of the majority of Muslims who love peace and who condemn terrorism. Only in this way you can start a process of rooting out radical Islamic sentiments, where hatreds and resentments towards an enemy and colonizing west are fueled.
