ISLAM-CHRISTIAN DIALOGUE

229 res of the Mediterranean closer together. One of the topics covered by my book is the increasing number of cases of in- ter-religious marriages involving children at risk of losing their mother in the event of separation or the return of their spouse to their country of origin. Because I noticed that the new genera- tions are culturally unprepared for the waves of immigration of the "different", I wanted to raise awareness in our society of aspects so far unknown about the re- lationship between two peoples of diffe- rent cultures and religions, so close and yet unfamiliar. Brothers who do not know each other but could love each other. The phenomenon of migration is transfor- ming Italy and Europe into a multicultural society, where people of different langua- ges, religions and cultures live together. Islam, in particular, is an increasingly present reality, even if in many ways still little known. In this respect, I would like to mention the book "Islam: History, Faith, Culture", Published by the School of Bre- scia. Authors: Crespi-Eid. The freedom of opinion and choice in Eu- rope could present an opportunity for Mu- slims by facilitating reflection and discus- sion to put the inner conversion before prohibitions. I am available to deepen the topic as a service to my adopted country, and in anticipation of a courteous respon- se, I offer my best regards. OBJECT: Islamic Center defends the figure of Jesus. The weekly Rose el Youssef of 11 October 2002, p. 82, reports on a fatwa issued by the British Islamic Court in defense of the figure of Jesus the prophet for Muslims, considering blasphemous the recitation "the body of Jesus" by the American au- thor McNeill. The fatwa is similar to that issued against Salman Rushdie with the difference that they ask for the killing not to be carried out because he will be subject to referral to the Islamic courts if he passes through an Islamic country that will take charge of imprisoning and hanging him. In connection with her speech to present Antonio Socci's book and the brief con- versation I had with you at the end, this fatwa raises some alarming considera- tions about the trend of Islamic centers: • Do Christians really need Jews, Muslims and..... to be defended in their faith? • To be executive in Islamic countries will it not have to be confirmed by a local ecclesiastical tribunal? And if it were, would it not become a blackmail weapon against freedom of thought in the West where some Islamic centers find refuge? • The same weapon could be used against anyone who criticizes Islam and gag those who denounce the racism
